Paseo Kids | Pasito
This Sunday, January 8, 2012, we will be incorporating a new program called PasitoKids (the –ito to distinguish the little ones from the big ones. I know, it’s pretty clever!). This program will provide an environment for children who are a little too advanced to hang out in the nursery with the babies, yet do not quite want the amount of structure that is the environment for the older kids in the PaseoKids K-5th ministry. This will be primarily for kiddos 2-4 years of age. There will be singing, playing, a short structured time of teaching, & age appropriate games & crafts! We can’t wait to get this kicked off & rolling.
November 3: Update
Engine of the Church
Over the next few months, Paseo is going to be refining our vision as a church. We’ve been running hard for about 5 years [wow, 5 years on March 4, 2012] on some ideas, thoughts, dreams, & plans I made in the basement of my house in Champaign, IL. It’s time that we shift from ‘Greg’s vision’ to ‘our vision’. Meaning, we’re all in this together & we HAVE to join together as we move forward. I can’t wait! To continue, click here.

Why Be a Christian?
C.K. Chesterton once said, “Men have never grown tired of Christianity; they never found enough Christianity to get tired of.” This is one of my favorite quotes. I use it a lot. Because I am frequently asked the question, “why would you be a Christian?” Not as an accusation. Many people I meet are honestly baffled. To continue reading, click here.
Roberts Elementary
SUCCESS!
After two weeks of the Roberts after school program I could not be more excited for what God is going to do through it. At first it was a little slow trying to get volunteers to come to help because of the time of day, but God has been providing people and it has been going great. Each week we spend time working on reading, homework, and have a time for a special project. The first week we just spent time talking about what we were going to do throughout the year and getting to know each other. Then this past week my friend Andy Rausch, who has studied architecture came in and talked about buildings and bridges. Then we built bridges out of popsicle sticks.
I could not ask for a better group of kids then the ones that I have. They are very respectful and they come excited to participate in whatever we are doing. I have also had the opportunity to talk with a few of the parents and they are very thankful for the extra help that their student is receiving. One thing that I want to implement is a reward program, where students will receive store bucks the more often they come and the more homework that they do.
If you are interested in donating items to this store we could use anything from games and toys to books and school supplies. Just keep in mind that the kids are second graders. Thank you Paseo family for your continued love and support as we serve this community.
Humbly,
Nick Nagy

Just Be
We live in a life of “go” and “do”. It’s what drives us. It’s what keeps us from being idle. It’s what propels us to become who God has called us to be.
But what about our Sabbath?
What about our Selah?
What about just “being”?
It’s time.
Time to stand still and let Him pour into you.
Time to not do.
Time to just reflect what’s already the brightest Light.
Time to just be.

Exponential One Days
10.25, 9am-3:30pm
Exponential - in partnership with First Baptist Church & Paseo Church – is providing this one day conference here in El Paso. And it’s not about the latest fads or church movements but a ‘refreshment’ built on Hebrews 12:1-3.
The Exponential One Days highlight the vital importance of the spiritual, physical, & emotional health of church leaders & their spouses. Where many conferences & resources focus on the ‘doing’ of models, approaches, & innovations – the Encouraged One Days focus on the ‘being’ & health of church leaders.
This is a great opportunity to be built into, talk with other church leaders in the area, & be encouraged.
- Date: Tuesday, October 25th
- Location: First Baptist Church of El Paso
- Time: 9 AM – 3:30 PM
- Cost: $29 [spouses attend for free]
- Registration: Please click HERE
- Lunch & childcare are provided! If you need child care, please contact Greg Hunt
FUNOWEEN
Have you noticed the sun setting earlier? How about a slight dip in the evening temps? We’ve made it through the summer and we’re now about to enjoy the best weather El Paso has to offer. We’re also about to hit the FUNOWEEN Season as well. Are you new to Paseo and don’t know what Funoween is? It’s a neighborhood party hosted by Paseoans. Carnival games, food, engaging neighbors and having a great time. This will be the fifth year we’ve hosted Funoweens all over the city and we’d love to have you serve you neighborhood by grabbing a couple other families and hosting your very own. Interested? Get in touch with Nick Nagy soon and line up some dates. We have a handful of games already made up for you to use.
Babies ‘R Us
Have you noticed how many wee ones are running amuck @ the Gathering? And have you noticed how many wee ones aren’t out of the womb yet? If not, you may suffer from ‘obliviousiticulitis’ [made up disease for 'not paying attention'
]. It’s pretty great that we have so many wee ones entering our community.
However, it is bringing about a bit of a crisis…the nursery is packed! Last Sunday [10.9], we had 10 kiddos being taken care of by 2 people. This is unacceptable & unsafe…especially since we have about 10 more babies on the way. From our end, we’re working on securing a larger spot for the babies & toddlers. But from YOUR end, we need an influx of volunteers for the nursery.
If you are a parent of this age, you should be volunteering if you aren’t in another area (if everyone who has a child in the nursery did this – we’d be covered for a once every 8-week rotation). Now we need your help even if you aren’t a parent of a baby or toddler. Contact Abby Dockery to jump in there. Thank you!

Steve Jolly’s Goodbye
Saying ‘adios’ to someone is not always pleasant. And it’s not always easy. But sometimes, it’s exactly what needs to happen. Steve Jolly has been with Paseo as a friend, confidant, & staff mate for the last 5 years. And on October 15th, one of those things changes – he will no longer be paid staff @ Paseo. This Sunday [10.16], we’ll be taking some time after the Gathering, to celebrate Steve. So plan to stick around, celebrate Steve, hug him a lot, & bless the next steps in his journey. To read more, click here.

October 5: Update
God can’t…
The big lie that most of us are held hostage to is: God can’t change me.
I said that in my message this past week. And as I said it, I thought about how many times I have internally & verbally expressed that myself. It doesn’t work. It’s not supposed to.

Roberts | Afterschool
The afterschool program at Roberts Elementary will kick off on October 12. This will be such a fun time to engage with kids and help them in areas of learning in which they may struggle. This is a great way to build lasting relationships with these kids and show them who Christ is. Everything is provided, we just need volunteers. If you are interested please contact Nick Nagy.

Community
Recently, I have been deeply inspired and encouraged. This inspiration and encouragement did not come from a sermon or a popular book. It came from seeing a group of middle school students show love to a skate park full of kids. To read more, go HERE.

Choose Joy
So much has happened the last couple months … BIG Paseo changes. It’s been heavy. Life. We have to carry it whether we want to or not. Sometimes, we get help in carrying our burdens and sometimes we don’t. But the one thing I can control is how I choose to carry my loads in life. So, I am choosing to do it joyfully. We all have a choice in what kind of person we want to be, what kind of outlook we will have and how we will respond to those who are unnecessarily horrible to us. And despite everyone elses actions, today… I’m gonna LIVE. I CHOOSE JOY. Click here to read complete story. To read more about Sara and her mantra CHOOSE JOY, CLICK HERE.
Nate Williams is Packing Up
On Friday, September 30th, we are saying see ya later to Nate. He is getting a trailer and packing up to head back to Tennessee. For a reminder of why he is moving – go here. Anyone available to help on Friday with last minute packing or loading, or just wants to say goodbye, come over to his house anytime after 8am.

We want to help make this transition for the FCC folks as smooth as we can. If you would, please try to park in half the parking lot & on the surrounding streets (Nevada, Arizona, & St. Vrain). Thank you!

La Mizma Voz

A couple of weeks ago, there was a Spanish speaking woman that walked into one of our services when we still at “The Percolator.” She sat and listened to the band practice our worship songs before the service started. Once we were done practicing, I sat down and talked with her and welcomed her to Paseo. She told me that she actually lives in Juarez, Mexico and was just in El Paso for the day finishing up some paperwork. She had never heard about Paseo or even knew that it existed.
She said that she was nervous to be in El Paso all alone and had been praying that she could find a church service to attend for the couple of hours she had available that Sunday morning. While walking the streets downtown, she stumbled across our church. God’s perfect timing and His perfect plan was obvious in her journey that morning.
After the service was over she walked over to me and explained how although she did not understand a word that our pastor preached or a word to the worship songs that we sung, she knew that it was “la misma voz” – - “The same voice.” She said God had overwhelmed her so greatly with His presence that it did not matter what language the service was in. As Christ followers, we need to remember that we are all following “la misma voz.”
The voice of the LORD is powerful;
the voice of the LORD is majestic.
Psalm 29:4 (NIV)

Encouraged | 10.25.11
Paseo is privileged to host an event for local Christian workers through Exponential called Exponential One Days. It’s a one day conference to refresh those who are in full time ministry. We are really excited to be part of this & are hoping to begin a better conversation within the Christian community of El Paso. And since we believe we are all in full time ministry, we want to extend the invitation to all of Paseo. It’s $29/couple, free childcare, 9AM – 3PM, held @ First Baptist, & lunch is included. And if you can’t participate – help us spread the word. If you have questions, let Greg Hunt help you out.
